Þórsmörk is one of the few places in Iceland that are protected from intense grazing of the Icelandic sheep that prevents natural distribution of flora and fauna. The place has quickly become one of the most popular outdoor areas of Iceland as undisturbed Birch forests dominate  the glacially carved mountain hills that surround the globally rare phenomena of "Sandur" plains. It is hard to find a place on planet earth that compares to the valley of Þórsmörk in terms of natural beauty and serenity.
